  SVHC is a substance (identified by the European Chemicals Agency) that may have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment. SVHC are defined in Article 57 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (“the REACH Regulation”) and include substances which are:
  1.  Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction (CMR), meeting the criteria for classification in category 1 or 2 in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC or in category 1a or 1b in accordance with EC No 1272/2008This directive was recently replaced by the new EU regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
  2.  Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic (PBT) or very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative (vPvB) according to the criteria in Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation, or

      DANGER-POISON Contains Potassium Hydroxide. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, mucous membranes and clothing. Do not take internally. Do not use where acid type drain openers have been used. Do not mix with other chemicals. First Aid: FLOOD with water, wash with vinegar. INTERNAL: DRINK large quantities of water and follow with citrus juice, if available. Contact a physician immediately. EYES: FLUSH with water for 15 minutes. Get prompt medical attention. Keep out of reach of children.

    • Acute health effects

      From MSDS Inhalation: Airborne concentrations of dust, mists, or spray may cause damage to the upper respiratory tract and even to the lung tissue proper which could produce chemical pneumonia, depending upon severity of exposure. Eye Contact: This product is destructive to eye tissues on contact. Will cause severe burns that result in damage to the eyes and even blindness. Skin Contact: This product is destructive to tissues contacted and produces severe burns. Ingestion: This product, if swallowed, can cause severe burns and complete tissue perforation of mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach. Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Not listed.

    • Chronic health effects

      From MSDS The chronic local effect may consist of multiple areas of superficial destruction of the skin or of primary irritant dermatitis. Similarly, inhalation of dust, spray, or mist may result in varying degrees of irritation or damage to the respiratory tract tissues and an increased susceptibility to respiratory illness.

    • Carcinogenicity

      From MSDS The ingredients in this product are not listed as carcinogenic by NTP, IARC, ACGIH, or OSHA.

    • Handling information

      From MSDS Danger! Causes severe burns to skin and eyes. Contact with eyes can cause permanent eye damage. Inhalation of dust, mist or spray can cause severe lung damage. Can react violently with water, acids and other substances. Do not get into eyes, on skin, on clothing. Avoid breathing dust, mist, or spray. Do not take internally. Use with adequate ventilation and employ respiratory protection when exposure to dust, mist or spray is possible. When handling, wear chemical splash goggles, face shield, rubber gloves and protective clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling or contact--exposure can cause burns which are not immediately painful or visible. Keep container closed. Product can react violently with water, acids, and other substances--read instructions before using. Product is corrosive to tin, aluminum, zinc and alloys containing these metals, and will react violently with these metals in powder form. Hazardous carbon monoxide gas can form upon contact with reducing sugars and food and beverage products in enclosed spaces and can cause death.

Shipment, storage, and/or disposal of waste materials are regulated and action to handle spilled or released materials must meet the applicable rules. If any question exists, the appropriate agencies should be contacted to assure proper action being taken.
